My experience traveling to Guyana for the 1st time.

Oh, how excited I was! From the moment my flight was booked, I could not hold in the excitement. When it was finally the day to head to the airport, I was exuberant.

We got to the airport, and boarded.. and off we went. My heart racing, thinking about how Guyana will compare to the city life here in the Big Apple.

We had to stop and switch planes in Trinidad, and although we weren’t in Guyana as yet, I could feel how close I was to the infamous Caribbean country.

Many hours later, we arrived and here I was being driven to my friends house to sleep for at most 3 hours. The roads, different. Houses, different. Cars, different. The air.. all so different. You can literally smell the difference. But I loved it.

We got in at about 4:30 AM, Guyana time, and slept until 7:30. We started our day by traveling all over the place; visiting and surprising family members (no one there knew my cousin and I were coming), walking and exploring the land, learning about the origins of my family.. it was all so amazing and honestly thrilling to me. I was smiling all weekend. The thick, hot air was truly something I appreciated. I love the heat. I love the sun. I loved it all. From the way the sun burned all day as people flooded the markets, to the music filled streets and small fairy lights during the night. Every single thing, I loved.

Don’t even mention the FOOD. No lie, I gained several pounds on the 3 days there. I checked, I seriously did. But the food is incredible. Delicious, and full of flavor.. and everything is natural. No processing, no fertilization.. organic. I can’t eat for another week, but damn, it was amazing.

The landmarks and different places I visited filled my days and nights. It was a blast. I was exhausted at the end of of my days because I was up and about from morning to night. So many places, that I don’t want to write them all.

And my family… family i’ve never gotten the chance to meet before, I have now. And to see why they act as they do, and how close they are.. and where my mom came from.. it was all such a great experience that I can’t wait to add on to and go back again.. but for more time to spend there.

I have to say that my trip to Guyana was incredible. I loved it so much. I will post a video very soon of SOME videos I taped. There was just so much videos I had to condense only some to make a little creation :)
